The William A. Faust Award
The William A. Faust Award was established in 1993 by the Air & Waste Management Association, Niagara Frontier Section, to recognize a member for distinguished service and outstanding contributions to our Section.
Our 2018 honoree is Janet Schmidt. Janet has been an active contributor for over 25 years on behalf of the Niagara Frontier Section. Her dedicated service includes roles on our Education committees starting in the early 90’s, serving as the chairperson of that committee. Followed by various Director positions, then Vice-Chair and eventually serving as Section Chairperson in 2006-2007. She has continued to support our Envirun for many more years.
Janet grew up in Western New York and received a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from the University at Buffalo in 1973, and a masters in Technical Education from Buffalo State in 1998. After receiving her Bachelor’s degree, she took a position in 1977 with Arcata Graphics in the Drafting Department, eventually moving on to take positions in the Facilities, Plant Engineering departments and finally assuming the position of Environmental Engineer. After over 30 years at Arcata Graphics/Quebecor, she took a position as a Plant Engineer at Ashton Potter (a manufacturer of postage stamps). In 2012 she decided to switch gears and started her “second” career as an adjunct professor at Genesee Community College teaching CAD Mechanical and Architectural courses and continues in this rewarding role today.
Janet and her husband Gary have been married 48 years and reside in Williamsville. They have two sons, Eric and Adam and five and a half grandchildren that they enjoy immensely.
Janet was recognized at our April 25, 2019 dinner meeting.
