The William A. Faust Award
The William A. Faust Award was established in 1993 by the Air & Waste Management Association, Niagara Frontier Section, to recognize a member for distinguished service and outstanding contributions to our Section.
Our 2019 honoree is Paul Kranz. Paul has been an active contributor for over 25 years on behalf of the Niagara Frontier Section. His dedicated service began in the early 90’s, and he has been a driving force for one of our cornerstone events since its inception. Paul started the Envirun when he was involved in AIChE in 1991 to coincide with Earth Day. When A&WMA decided to continue sponsoring the event, Paul stuck with it and worked with A&WMA to make it the success it has been since its inception. This ongoing service is squarely in the tradition of our highly dedicated past Faust Award winners who are always ready and willing to do the hard work that goes on behind the scenes. This is what makes this organization so successful where members take a leadership role whenever called upon.
Paul grew up in western New York and received a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the University at Buffalo in 1980, and his MBA in 1986. He is also a licensed Professional Engineer in NY. He began working at Union Carbide and then took positions at West Valley and Velzy/CRA until 1989 when he joined the Erie County Department of Environment & Planning, where he remained for 30 years until his retirement earlier this year.
Paul and his wife, Diane, have been married for 35 years and have three successful, adult children. Paul has been a volunteer fireman for over 35 years and an EMT for most of that time as well.
Paul was recognized at our October 24, 2019 dinner meeting.
